history
In the mid 1980s WHRB showcased one the dopest Hip-Hop programs in Boston. The nationally acclaimed show "Streat Beat," dj-ed by J the Sultan and Go-Go Dave, was at the center of hip-hop music. Airing live artists, fresh new sounds, and important concert info, Streat Beat put WHRB and TDS on the map.
While in school the dj's John Shecter and Dave Mays started the Streat Beat Newsletter. By capitalizing on the freshness of hip-hop, and the growing number of hip-hop fans, the newsletter evolved into The Source magazine.
