Jesmyn Ward is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Tulane University and the author of several acclaimed works of fiction and non-fiction that explore the themes of race, poverty, identity, and family. She is a 2017 MacArthur Fellow, a two-time winner of the National Book Award, and one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2018. In this interview, she talks with WHRB News reporter Matt Hoisch about her latest book, Sing, Unburied, Sing, her time in college, and how being a writing teacher helps her to be a better writer.
