Gonzalo Rubalcala is world renowned Cuban musician. Coming from a musical background with deep family and cultural roots, Rubalcala has a long distinguished career, deftly moving from classical to jazz music, performing in arenas from Havana to Tokyo, and developing his style as both a pianist and composer. We caught Rubalcala before his Saturday performance at Sanders Theatre with the Harvard Jazz Orchestra (tickets available here). He is joined in the WHRB studio with jazz DJ Jerrica in an intimate interview where he reflects on his musical philosophy, how his music making adapted during the pandemic, and what keeps him fresh on his toes.
