Tillotama Shome: Indian Actress on Her Career and Country

Tillotama Shome is an enormously talented and versatile Indian film actress. Over her 20 year career, she has done everything from international projects to independent films to mainstream commercial films. She is best known for her work in films like Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding, Anup Singh’s Qissa, Konkona Sensharma’s A Death in the Gunj and, most recently, Rohena Gera’s Sir. Over the years, she has picked up several awards, including the Best Actress award at the 2013 New Horizons Film Festival, the 2019 New York Indian Film Festival and the 2019 Jagran Film Festival.

In this interview with Harkirat Bhullar, Tillotama Shome talks about her early life, Monsoon Wedding, educational theatre, Qissa, Hindi Medium, A Death in the Gunj, Sir, isolation and acceptance, India's #metoo movement and her new projects.
